OVERVIEW OF IEP

WHO
International students whose English proficiency is at the beginning level.

WHAT
Intensive English training for a full semester (15 hours per week) covering the four core areas needed for language growth: reading, writing, listening and speaking.

WHEN
The program runs during all regular semesters. The fall and spring semesters are 16 weeks, and the summer semester is a six-week program.

COST
Please refer to the CFNI finance worksheet for IEP tuition rates. Scholarship awards may not be applied toward the IEP. The awards are for the regular academic programs only.
HIGHLIGHTS OF IEP
- This program provides a foundation in English for CFNI students prior to enrollment in the regular academic programs, thereby equipping them to participate and succeed in the core programs at CFNI.
- Upon arrival, students will receive a complete assessment of their English skills. They will also receive a follow-up assessment at the end of the semester.
- In-depth teaching by experienced instructors in reading, writing, listening and speaking.
- Additional instruction in phonics, useful vocabulary for CFNI courses, grammar, note-taking and culture.
- Field trips around the Dallas-Ft.Worth Area to expose students to the culture of Texas.
EVENING ESL PROGRAM AT CFNI
Once the student completes the IEP program, they will transition into the regular ESL program the following semester. This program provides four levels of study and meets once a week, in the evening, with an additional lab time for further application of the English skills learned.
CORE AREAS OF IEP STUDY
- READING
Using the Bible and ESL texts to increase speed and comprehension skills.
- WRITING
Instruction in basic writing techniques such as sentences, paragraphs and short essay writing.
- LISTENING
Will provide a variety of “voices” through media and group work to encourage comprehension in American speech patterns.
- SPEAKING
Relevant topics will be assigned to students to practice speaking in a comfortable setting with other students on the same level. Examples are basic speech skills and personal testimonies.
- In addition to consistent integration of the four areas listed above, students will also enjoy the powerful morning worship with the CFNI student body.

CURRENT CFNI INTERNATIONAL STUDENTS

Current students may choose to transition for 1 semester to the IEP for extensive English training.

The registration fee will be waived for students who register by November 15th.

Before classes begin, an assessment of English skills will be given.

If the assessment shows a beginning skill level, the IEP is recommended but not required*.

The English training enables the new student to prepare for the mainstream program at CFNI and to fully understand the biblical teachings presented.
*If the assessment shows a skill level higher than beginner, the student will be referred to the regular CFNI program with an ESL class included once per week.
NEW STUDENTS ARRIVING SPRING 2008
