The U.S. government will not allow international students to be employed off campus, but will allow them to work on campus if there is a need — a maximum of 20 hours per week while school is in session, and 40 hours per week between sessions.

Each year, a few work study positions are available to students from outside the United States who could not otherwise afford to attend. Some work study jobs provide tuition only, and others provide tuition and living costs for an individual. A work study position does not provide for a spouse and/or family.

How Students are Selected

In addition to the admission requirements listed previously, the international student applying for the Work Study Program must comply with the following:

1. An applicant must be unable to provide for expenses (other than transportation) in any other manner or from any other source. The financial need of an applicant for a work scholarship is considered an important factor in the decision process; however, the applicant's qualifications for jobs open must also be seriously weighed.

2. An applicant accepted for the Work Study Program must agree to return to his/her country after one year at CFNI, though the institute offers a two-year program.

NOTE: A student is eligible for only one year under the Work Study Program. If, however, after the student arrives the Lord provides the money, he or she may attend for a second year. It will be considered a serious breach of trust if the student has funds to pay for one year of study, but withholds it until it is time for the second year.

3. An applicant for the Work Study Program should be a well-grounded believer, have at least one year of Bible training, and have served the Lord in diligent Christian service. These qualifications must be confirmed to the satisfaction of the CFNI administration.

4. An applicant must have high recommendations from those familiar with their life and ministry.

NOTE: An applicant must bear in mind that each time the selection committee meets, hundreds of worthy applicants are considered. Regrettably, it is not possible to accept all those who apply.

How the Work Study Program Works

1. An applicant accepted on the Work Study Program is given a job on campus. Those working 20 hours per week are compensated by receiving the amount for tuition and living costs. Those working 10 hours per week will be compensated by receiving the amount for tuition only.

2. The work study student must be willing to do whatever job is given. Most of the work assigned will be comprised of menial tasks necessary to the ministry.

3. Although there are breaks between school terms, those on the Work Study Program must continue working since the work and living costs go right on. When class is not in session, a student must be willing to continue working to help pay his costs. For those on a full scholarship, there will be no opportunity to travel as a tourist during the year of studies at CFNI. If a student desires to travel while in the States it should be done before the beginning of school or after the year is up. Work study participants are not required to work on statutory holidays when the institute is closed and faculty and staff are also off work. These are the only days off from work granted throughout the year.
